6 Activities for teenagers in St Francis

If you’re the parent of a teenager, you’ve been told on numerous occasions how “uncool” you are. Your little ball of angst would far rather sit on their phone, talking to their friends back home, than show the slightest bit of enthusiasm for what you have planned for your holiday in St Francis.

When you have spent weeks (or even months) planning the perfect family holiday, having your teenager tell you how lame you have made it can put a damper on your own spirits. Surely there must be a way to keep everybody happy?

We’ve got good news and bad news:

  • The bad news is that there is probably very little you can do to make your teenager think you are the world’s greatest parent. At least, not for the next few years.
  • The good news is that we have managed to dig up some St Francis teen favourites that will change the “how was your holiday?” answers from “lame” to “cool”. In teenage terms, that’s a pretty big deal.

The Beach

St Francis is home to a number of beautiful beaches, all of which are quite safe to roam during daylight hours. On less-windy days, your entire family can head down to the beach for some fun in the sun. Granted, it’s still going to be “so uncool” for your teen to be seen with you in public. Lucky for them, there are endless stretches of beach to explore.

Teens can take a walk along the shores, meet other teens, play ball games or let out their angsty vibes while exploring the rock pools. If nothing else, you might even get some nice family time while they set up a tanning bed in your general vicinity.

Pampering

If you have spawned quite the madam, a little pampering is going to be right up her alley! While grown women may enjoy keeping up with the local beauty secrets, teenage girls will love the local beauty bars and their little pamperings.

Book your princess in for a manicure, pedicure or facial and they definitely won’t be scowling when they get back. For extra points, book a hair appointment for that holiday hair that will have them jumping at Instagram selfie opportunities with all of the fun family activities you have planned. Mom – 1. Teenage angst – 0.

Skateboarding

St Francis Brewing Company is run by a couple with teenagers of their own. Thankfully, they have seen the need for a teen and family friendly venue that everyone can enjoy. They have built a great skateboard ramp outside that teenagers can enjoy while the smaller kids enjoy the games table. You, as parents, can then enjoy a craft beer or G&T with the peace of mind that everyone is having a good time.

Soccer

If you’ve bought along a troop of teens on your St Francis holiday, this may be perfect… An outdoor soccer field!

On the corner of Assisi and College Road, you’ll find a clean, public soccer field that provides a great opportunity to get the kids outdoors. As long as the parents aren’t “cramping their style”, your sporty teens may just enjoy a friendly game of soccer among themselves?

Surfing

If your teen is a surfer already, they’ll be chuffed to know that Cape St Francis has one of the top surf spots in the world! If they haven’t brought along their own board, there are a few places in the area that offer rentals.

If your teen hasn’t tried surfing yet, why not sign them up for a lesson? Not only will they learn a new skill, but they’re guaranteed to come back in a great mood!

Sunset Rock

For the artistic teens, Sunset Rock provides a soulful paradise, during holiday season. Here, you’ll find musicians, sharing their talents with friends, couples watching the sunset and teens “just chilling”.

If your teen enjoys writing poetry, songs or soaking up inspiration for their artistic soul, this spot could be their holiday muse. With the most beautiful sunset view in St Francis, it will speak to any artistic soul. Even a teenage one…

With all of these great suggestions, figuring out how to keep your teenager entertained in St Francis is going to be a breeze!
